WHO ARE YOU?

Hello! My name is Breanna Barbara, I'm a musician currently based in Far Rockaway Queens in New York City. I was originally born in Edina, Minnesota but moved around a lot as a kid and have lived in a few different places including Wisconsin, Washington D.C., West Virginia, Florida, Vermont & New Orleans. For better or worse I think some would say this shaped me up to be a pretty transient person.
WHAT DO YOU DO?

Mostly riding the waves of being a human being in this day in age! I also write songs, play music with my friends and travel as much as I can. I really love performing live and probably cry/ laugh more than the average person.
WHY DO YOU DO IT?
Mainly to attempt to connect to something outside of myself. Whenever I'm playing music or around my friends/ loved ones I feel better. I think we all really need each other more than we realize. I also love to lose track of time which is something that happens when I'm writing & playing music.
WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW?
I'm counting down the days until the release of my second album! I can't believe it's so close, I've been working on getting this record out into the world for what feels like a very long time. I'm so grateful it's finally happening.
WHAT'S THE HOT TOPIC?

I think it's wild how much the world of social media has changed the game for less mainstream artists. There are some incredible musicians out there that just don't translate to a screen or know how to self-promote and I really don't believe that should be the sole determinant of whether or not they are given certain opportunities, especially when it comes to a live performance. I understand that everyone is under different pressures, especially after the pandemic (promoters/bookers, etc) so it's harder to take risks but I really hope smaller musicians can continue to make tours and live shows happen despite their presence & numbers online.
