Away From The Noise

SOLO DATES...

Hi hello! I’m Emma and I’m a singer-songwriter from London. I’ve been writing songs ever since I stole my little brother’s guitar aged 13 and taught myself how to play a Katy Perry song on YouTube. Contrary to popular belief I was in fact raised by Katy Perry. "I take myself out to dinner, to art galleries, to see movies, to gym classes, and on long 2 hour walks with my noise-cancelling headphones on."

Anyway, I have chosen to write my feature on solo dates. Perhaps slightly niche, but hear me out. I am definitely an extroverted person, I love being around people and I see my friends all the time, but one of my favourite things to do is to take myself out on little dates. I’ve gotten to be very good at being by myself - I lived alone for ages during the lockdowns, which although was tough, is something that has been so invaluable to me growing as a person. I think it is so important to spend time with yourself, to know yourself, to trust yourself and to be comfortable in your own company.

"I TAKE MYSELFOUT TO DINNER, TO ART GALLERIES, TO SEE MOVIES, TO GYM CLASSES, AND ON LONG 2 HOUR WALKS WITH MY NOISE-CANCELLING HEADPHONES ON."

I take myself out to dinner, to art galleries, to see movies, to gym classes, and on long 2 hour walks with my noise-cancelling headphones on. All sorts of things. There is nothing more liberating and meditative than going to a restaurant, sitting in the corner with your journal, turning your phone off and ordering yourself your favourite meal and a glass of wine. I find it so healing and restorative. Some of my friends think I’m crazy but I genuinely love it. I also love that sometimes it can be a bit scary to do that sort of thing, but it feels like you are pushing yourself to be a bit bolder and braver. It always clears my head and relaxes me and I feel closer to myself which is always positive and good and fun. I would highly recommend it, it’s so peaceful and lovely.

Before I go… back to music things! Very excited to tell you that my sophomore EP “Grow or Die” is out now! The title is probably just as dramatic as some of the feelings that went into writing it. It was a very healing project to write, much like my little solo dates have been and continue to be. I hope you love it or resonate with it or listen and think oh cool someone else has felt that too, amazing, maybe I am not as alone as I thought I was! Okay… lots of love!!
