WHO ARE YOU, AND WHAT DO YOU DO?
My name is Lifesize Teddy. I’m a singer, songwriter, rapper and poet.
WHAT DRIVES YOUR CREATIVITY?
To be honest, just being and experiencing the world around me. Thinking how it’s shaped and continues to shape me. Living life and wanting to earnestly document it from my own POV.
WHAT IS HAPPENING IN YOUR WORLD RIGHT NOW? WHAT ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT?
Oh my goodness everything! Everything feels so possible right now, I’m so geeked. I opened for [fellow Afrobeats-inspired artist] Ayra Starr on her UK tour towards the end of last year and then dropped my second EP POISN a week afterwards. I feel pretty much indestructible right now. This year, it only gets better!
WHAT ISSUE WITHIN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY DESERVES MORE DISCUSSION?
The actual business of music. I think a lot of artists aren’t very well educated about the industry they are in and how the business side of things work. This is especially the case with young artistes. I’m learning myself everyday. It’s very interesting.
IF SOMEBODY HAS NEVER HEARD YOUR MUSIC BEFORE, WHAT SONG SHOULD THEY START WITH AND WHY?
For a new listener, I would probably suggest ‘Air’ from my self-titled debut EP. It feels like a welcome call/ritual to a safe space. A soothing hug if you will. If anyone made me feel that comfortable on first listen, I’ll most likely listen to them for a long time.
Lifesize Teddy's EP POISN is out now.
